Highdown Gardens
To quote Sir Frederick Stern in 1967 from the March edition of the Royal Horticultural Society Journal:
The garden at Highdown was made as an experiment to see what would grow on the chalk soil of the Downs.
And what a success it is too.
There is so much going on at Highdown. A mecca of learning for any plants person, there are guided tours, discovery days, workshops, Downland trails, activity packs and sensory garden. Or, why not volunteer and enjoy the gardens all year round.
To find out more about the fascinating history, characters and the plants that make the gardens so unique, the Highdown website is an engrossing read.
