Shornemead Fort
Partly destroyed by the Royal Engineers Army Demolition School in the '60s, Shornemead Fort was built in the 1860s along with Cliffe Fort and several others as defences from attack at the mouth of the river Thames.
Graffiti daubed and now flooding, the casemates can still be seen and illustrate how the gun cover protected the shoreline. Similar to Cliffe Fort, Shornemead sits on the Saxon Shore Way and makes a great stop on a Cliffe Fort to Gravesend walk.
