Walk 51 – Royal Oak Point to Leysdown-on-Sea, Kent
After you leave Royal Oak Point heading for Leysdown-on-Sea, Sheppey, Kent, the groyne protected beach is soon replaced by skeletal trees in an eroded mud wasteland.
The going, sometimes on the very soft side, is easy with a backdrop of forested hillside slowly melting into the sea.
On reaching Warden Point, I was greeted with the ruins of WWII fortifications now resting at jaunty angles and the element's mercy.
From Leysdown-on-Sea it's a longish return via footpaths and roads but very satisfying.
