Orford Ness

Home to the biggest vegetated shingle spit in Europe, Orford Ness, Suffolk has the feel of an abandoned ghost town.

For many decades, entry to the Ness was forbidden as the shingle was home to secret bomb facilities run by the MoD. Now deserted and owned by the National Trust, the area is a National Nature Reserve and SSSI. Check the National Trust website for details.
