Kingswear Castle
The Kingswear Castle paddle steamer now sails on the Dart River, Devon after moving from Chatham historic dockyard in Kent.
Built in 1924, this coal-fired paddle steamer has been lovingly restored with assistance from the Paddle Steamer Preservation Society.
During World War II, Kingswear Castle was chartered by the US navy as a personnel and stores carrier. After her service ended in 1965, she ended up floating forlorn in Dartmouth's Old Mill Creek, with her sister ship, Totnes Castle, alongside her.
Award winning
Kingswear Castle was finally returned to service in 1985 and in 1986 won the National Steam Heritage Award and claimed first prize in the Scania Transport Trust Awards in 1995. Available for private hire, Kingswear Castle is also noted for its television and film work. A great star indeed.
