Herstmonceux Castle

Dating back to the 15th century, this stunning brick built fortified manor house, partly moated and its grounds once home to the Royal Greenwich Observatory, has a history full of mystery and intrigue. Gambling, murder, making merry and civil unrest are just a small part of the castle's human story.

After centuries of renovations and new ownership, this lovely building is now home to the Bader International Study Centre for graduates studying law, commerce or arts. There are gardens and parkland to wander, or you might be lucky and catch a game of cricket on the castle's pitch. Privately owned.
