Watts Cemetery Chapel
Created by the founder of Compton Pottery, Mary Watts, this chapel and cemetery is testimony to one person's devotion to pottery and helping others. Wife of the renown George Watts, Mary herself was a leading light in the art and crafts world.
It's hard to imagine that Watts Cemetery Chapel is the result of pottery evening classes and the help of local residents. It takes even the most casual observer a while to take in the multitude of shapes, designs and forms.
For me, it was a delight to walk around in the winter sun. Relaxing, thought provoking and an escape from the Covid madness. The chapel interior is reported to be even more stunning but sadly closed at present. I shall return with a vaccine in my arm!
