St Mary's church
Grade I listed, St Mary's church, Saffron Walden, Essex is a must to visit if you're ever in this neck of the woods. Grandiose, it's almost cathedral like and boasts the tallest church spire at 59m in the county.
Standing on the site of a (yes, you've guessed it) Norman church, St Mary's has been rebuilt over the centuries resulting in this superb perpendicular style house of God.
The ceilings and supporting arches are works of art, while the saint-lined alter is back by a delightful stained-glassed window. In the graveyard there are memento moris to be found.
