St Mary's church
Finished in 1765, the church of St Mary the Virgin is a Grade II listed Anglican church. Constructed on the sight of a medieval church, St Mary's was built for the Bishop of Durham who lived next door at Glynde Place.
Inside, there are some gorgeous stained glass windows, my reason for mentioning this church. Outside, the graveyard was overgrown and unkempt but there is a pretty rose garden at the rear. On the left wall one of the graves is decorated with a Harmer plaque.
A nicely decorated church with neat lines. I'm just not sure about the amateurish saint image painted on the front; it spoils it.
