Pevensey Courthouse Museum and Gaol

Easily found in Pevensey High Street, East Sussex, the Pevensey Courthouse Museum and Gaol is crammed with exhibits showcasing the life of this famous village. Pevensey existed long before the Duke of Normandy came knocking on our shores, which the museum displays in a nice, old fashioned kind of way.

The courthouse remains untouched with its dock and benches in their original places, last used in 1886. Obviously, there is a lot of 1066 information but peruse the ageing cabinets and you will discover fossils, clothing, tools, coins and much more.

Underneath is the original gaol. A bit over renovated for my liking, but the black grill apparently came from Pevensey castle. All this and it's free!
