St Mary Magdalene church

Sitting on the site of a long forgotten chapel which had links to St Mary in the Castle of Hastings, St Mary Magdalene, Wartling is a rare breed of church – it has its own toilet and car park. Grade I listed, St Mary's dates back to the 13th century with numerous additions over the centuries, most of which have survived.

A very neat and tidy graveyard encircles while a pretty rose and shrub path entices you to the entrance. Look closely at the walls you might find a carved 'buckle' and 'catherine' wheel, a possible link to the Pelham family and the loss of his daughter, Catherine, in 1459.
