St George's church
St George's Church, Benenden, Kent sits at the head of the spacious and very pretty village green. With its crenelated walls and tower this nicely proportioned church gives off a battle ready aura. According to the Domesday Book there has been a religious building on this spot since 1068, the same year as the book was finished (there are actually two volumes).
Inside is a grand affair after being totally revamped by David Brandon during the latter half of the 1800s. Look for the lovely decorated ceiling paneling above the large stained glass window, and a delightful tapestry showing the village of Benenden. Benches in the graveyard are perfect for a moment of reflection.
