Penhurst church
Described as one of East Sussex's most remote villages with around 50 or so inhabitants (my kind of place), Penhurst near Battle is home to the relatively untouched 14th century St Michael the Archangel church.
The roof is pyramidical and tiled with a 14th century knave, 15th century tower plus later additions. Inside there is attractive carved panelling, box-pews and font. Outside, if you search you will find the headstone of Harry H Corbett of Steptoe and Son fame. Ask an old person if you're aged under 50.
