Birling Gap to Exceat

Distance:  7.5 miles – 3.8 miles SDW

Sea mist rolled in as we left the National Trust car park at Birling Gap. After a couple of miles of yo-yoing over the Seven Sisters, the SDW takes a right at Haven Brow sauntering down to the Cuckmere river. At Foxhole we ascend again for a short distance to descend to Exceat over Combe Bottom. A quick look round the visitor center and it's off to Cuckmere Haven following the delightful wide river. The weather is now glorious as we pick our way over the tide exposed shoreline to Birling Gap. Beware: please be certain of tide times as the only exit is the steps at Birling Gap. The cliffs are prone to rockfalls and it is extremely slippery underfoot. Undertake at your own risk.
