Driving through the Dolomites puts a smile on your face. It is one of the world's prettiest mountain ranges. Picturesque, accessible for walkers at all levels, it is also home to the famed Via Ferrata. 

Meaning 'iron path' in Italian, via ferrata routes combine metal cables, ladders and steps to take hikers, like myself, over routes normally the preserve of climbers. Originally constructed to aid troop movement over the mountains during WWI, they are now a very popular, and scary, pastime. Try the easy graded routes first. Cortina is a must visit if you like the suave, Italian way of life.
