Leas Lift

Now Grade II listed, the Leas Lift funicular railway has carried people from Folkestone's promenade to the seafront (and back), since 1885.

Using water to defy gravity, it recycles all of its 'fuel' and is very environmentally friendly. It is also one of the oldest of its kind in the UK.

Decommissioned in 2009 due to cost and maintenance, it was restored in 2011 and now run by The Folkestone Leas Lift Community Interest Company.

It's cheap, fun and a piece of working history.
