North east of Dover, hidden away off the A258, is the lovely village of St Margaret's at Cliffe. Venture down towards the sea and you will find St Margaret's Bay, a gem of a place.
At low tide the foreshore under the chalk cliffs is a slippery affair or, on a fine day, take in the coastline view of our French neighbours. People still ask 'is that France over there?'
If you are a film buff, walk along the seafront from the carpark and you will find two (private) gleaming, although tired, white houses. Built in the 1930s, they are said to have been leased by Noel Coward and sub let to (Sir) Ian Flemming. Not wishing to name drop of course.
If you have time, take the stairs to the cliff-top and follow the Saxon Shore Way east to Kingsdown or west to the South Foreland lighthouse. Both directions afford stunning panoramas and you can't really get lost! You'll need OS Explorer Map (138) Dover, Folkstone and Hythe.
